Mill Park Leisure raise over $4000 for children to learn to swim
Mill Park Leisure has successfully raised more than $4,000 through its community Spinathon fundraiser, exceeding its original goal of $3,000 and helping create more opportunities for children to access essential swimming lessons.
The 12-hour fundraising event, held on Saturday 5 September, brought together members, local businesses, staff and the wider community for a day filled with energy, connection and purpose. In partnership with the Belgravia Foundation, funds raised will help provide six months of fully funded Learn to Swim lessons for children who may otherwise miss out due to financial barriers.
The event was about much more than cycling.
Every dollar raised will help children gain access to life-saving water safety education, build confidence in and around the water, and develop essential swimming skills that can stay with them for life.
For many families, the cost of Learn to Swim lessons can be a significant barrier. By coming together as a community, participants helped remove that barrier and create opportunities for local children to learn a critical life skill.
A Day of Community Spirit
From 8:00am to 8:00pm, the venue was transformed into a hub of fundraising fun featuring:
- High-energy master cycle classes
- Themed music throughout the day
- A community sausage sizzle
- Raffles and prize giveaways
- A vibrant and supportive atmosphere
Participants could ride individually or as part of a team, with many embracing the challenge for the full day.

An incredible three riders completed the entire 12-hour cycle challenge: Ali, Sia and Gavin. In recognition of their dedication, Sia and Gavin were awarded a 12-month membership.
The event was made possible through the generosity of dedicated instructors Jane, Carol, Sue, Patricia, Michelle and Amanda, who donated their time and energy to support the fundraiser.
Cycle instructors Carol Andrews, Emilia Anastasio and Sue McGuane reflected on the success of the event:
“Congratulations to those who rode 12 hours for a worthy cause. We are incredibly grateful for each and every person who helped us achieve and surpass our fundraising goal. To the cycle team, thank you for your energy and efforts.”
The fundraiser not only exceeded its target but demonstrated the power of community collaboration when people come together for a meaningful cause.

Mill Park Leisure Venue Manager Ryan Mifsud said the event highlights the power of community support.
“This event was a great way to connect families with swim skills regardless of their financial capacity or circumstance, with the opportunity for local businesses, communities and sponsors to get involved.
“Special thanks to all of our sponsors and prize providers, including Light and Sound, Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa, Zoggs, Myzone, Mantra Lorne, Ataraxy and Speedo.”
Making a Difference Together
Mill Park Leisure would like to thank everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, purchased raffle tickets, attended classes or simply showed their support.
Because of the generosity of our community, more children will now have the opportunity to access Learn to Swim lessons, develop confidence in the water and gain skills that could one day save a life.
Together, we didn’t just complete a Spinathon. We helped create safer futures for local children.
